Reckless driving is just one of the offences, Welsh Police are hoping drivers will send in footage of.

Operation Snap an initiative first launched in October 2016 by the North Wales Police and the Road Casualty Reduction Partnership, is being rolled out across all four Welsh police forces in conjunction with GoSafe (the Wales Road Safety Casualty Reduction Partnership). The campaign encourages members of the public to submit footage and images showing traffic offences being committed. Footage has already been submitted involving the full range of driving offences ranging from dangerous driving, using a mobile phone, ignoring lights or crossing solid white lines.

Darren Stevens, Marketing Director for All Fleet Online, commented:

“This scheme is looking to to make good use of the growing proportion of vehicles that are fitted or retro-fitted with dashcams. Whilst already widely used by drivers in the event of an incident, this is the first large scale initiative looking to tap into their content to catch more drivers committing driving offences. It will be interesting to see the level of take up by the general public and I am sure other regions will also be watching it closely. If successful and adopted even more widely it could lead to a significant increase in fixed penalty notices and fines”.
